Omega-3 fatty acid (also n-3 and ω-3) is the term for a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids that share a double bond at carbon atom number three from the hydrocarbon end, the position on the hydrocarbon chain called ω-3 (omega-3). Good sources of omega-3 fatty acids are fatty fish, such as mackerel, salmon, herring, anchovies, and sardines, flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, and other plants, such as kiwi, perilla, and lingonberries.
